Will the consumer have the last laugh?

If the digital strategists aren't careful they will bring about the end of brands. Everyone will soon just choose the cheapest generic for as technology advances all things will be equal. That's why a search engine suspects this and fights hard to be the generic. 
Smart phones also come to mind. By the end of this year the only way to distinguish the better will only be price. Finally consumers will actually win! Those who created the demand will be out of jobs.
